Jordan helps steer side into next round

Dollingstown travelled to Ballymoney who were missing a number of players through suspension and injury and came away with a comfortable 4-2 victory to progress into the next round of the Intermediate Cup.

The theme of the opening 20 minutes seemed to centre around Ritchie Thompson creating assists for central midfielder Jordan Gibson who for the second week in a row was playing in a more attacking mid field role.

However, Gibson failed to score on two occasions before converting a chance on 9 minutes but Dollingstown were then thankful to goalkeeper Kris Fletcher who brought off two excellent saves to deny young Che Bradley on both occasions.

This was then followed up by a superb defensive tackle by full back Dwayne Kerr who easily had his best game to date in a Dollingstown shirt. He then won yet another excellent tackle which enabled the visitors to counter attack resulting in leading scorer Thompson putting them 2-0 up on 25 minutes.

This lead was extended to 3-0 when Richard Donaghy fired home from a Neil Clydesdale corner and this was almost added to but skipper Aaron Moffett’s header from a corner landed on the roof of the net.

In the second half Ballymoney almost pulled a goal back in the first few minutes but once again keeper Fletcher pulled off a fine save low down to his left.

Manager Gary Duke the brought on three strikers in Ashley Gregg, Adam Montgomery and the returning Colin Cunningham who has been out injured for almost two months. Jordan Gibson then further increased the lead to 4-0 after the ball had rebounded from a couple of defenders following shots by Clydesdale and Montgomery.

However after this Dollingstown switched off and all credit to a very young Ballymoney team they pulled back two late goals through Con Boyle and Che Bradley who curled in an excellent goal from the edge of the area.

Dollingstown thank Ballymoney for there hospitality after the game.

The reward is a home tie against Glentoran Seconds in the next round on January 24.

On Saturday Dollingstown are on the road for the third week running with a very tough encounter with local rivals Annagh Utd who are one of the favourites for promotion this season.
