Joy as Under 17’s win Shield final

There was no doubting the game of the weekend at the Lisburn Distillery Academy, the U-17s Shield final with local rivals Hillsborough.

It was to be a happy ending as the Wee Whites ran out comfortable 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Lee Newell (2), Mark Owens and Chris Walmsley.

Another piece of silverware for the club with the hope of much more to come in what is turning out to be a very exciting season.

The coaching staff of the victorious side Sam Allen and Richard Evans would like to thank the tremendous support on the day from the various players, parents and coaches from across the Academy.

It was a successful weekend all round with all the title chasing teams recording victories.

The U-13s are locked at the top of the table on 36 points after a 5-2 win over Carrick, in a carbon copy in the U-16s section Billy Shannon’s team also have 36 points but are top courtesy of goal difference thanks to a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Lurgan Town. The Lurgan boys were also put to the sword 3-1 by the U-15s as the Whites keep up the title challenge in this age group.

Not to be outdone the U-14s also had a 9-0 victory over Greenisland. The youth team also had success winning 3-0 in a friendly with Glentoran, the names on the score sheet Dalzell (2) and a McCullough penalty.

Also in a friendly Ross White got a hat-trick in a game for the U-10s at UUJ against Greenisland, a big thank you to Marc Gamble for inviting the boys down and to the Greenisland boys for playing their part in some excellent games.
