Junior Cup takes centre stage

Only one game beat the elements last Saturday and it was to be a disappointing day for Foyle Wanderers when they lost 3-1 at home to Tollymore Swifts in the Irish Junior Cup.

Everyone will be hoping for a change in the weather this week as there are three games in the Premier Division and also four ties in the second round of the Matt Morrison Junior Cup, with two sides flying the flag for the North West Junior League, while Garvagh host Draperstown and Kilrea travel to Aghadowey.

Premier Division

Lincoln Courts v

Newbuildings United

Reserves

Two sides at the wrong end of the table. The Courts have made a couple of signings as they attempt to resurrect what has been a disappointing season. They will definitely have to strengthen for the next campaign.

The visitors have recently changed managers as they to flirt with relegation. They have struggled most weeks to get the same side out on a consistent basis.

Prediction: Lincoln Courts

Foyle Wanderers v Claudy Rovers

These two are very much in the title race. Wanderers, after going to great lengths to have their Irish Junior cup game played last Saturday, were bitterly disappointed with their performance, they must now concentrate on the league.

Ryan McDaid will have his side champing at the bit as he knows a victory here would give his talented side a big boost for the remainder of the season. With two attacking sides sure to be goals.

Prediction: Score draw

Ardmore v Tullyally

Damien McGee’s side have all but given up hope of winning the title but they are still involved in a number of cup competitions so he will remind his players that there is still a lot to play for.

Tullyally have a good record against their neighbours. They are a side that play the game in the right way and with a couple more additions for next season they could finally get amongst the trophies.

Prediction: Score draw

Matt Morrison Junior Cup

Greysteel v Drummond

Although these two sides are in different divisions this should be a cracker. The home side are odds on favourites to gain promotion and they have a good mix of youth and experience with Joe Gray leading by example.

Drummond’s main focus is on winning the title. They currently sit in top spot however Geoff Ferris will have installed into his charges that they must go out believing that they can win every game.

Prediction: Drummond

Magherafelt Reds v BBOB

In previous years the home side have been very difficult to beat on home soil and this probably won’t be any different, they have a number of Gaelic players in their side who can be physical.

The Old Boys should be back to full strength. Liam Doherty and Nicky Cooke are two of their main players and they also have the deadly duo of Grant Garden and Joe McCready up front, this could be a tight one with the Old Boys a tentative selection.

Prediction: BBOB
