McDaid also conceded that he always had confidence in his players showing their never say die attitude.

“In the first half we were absolutely atrocious, in fact you would have thought that they had never played together before,” he said.

“They deservedly took the lead and I think their goal meant we finally dug down a bit and started to get a bit more of the play, but Ardmore definitely dominated possession for long, long spells but as you know if you dominate and don’t put the ball in the net, all that possession means nothing.

“I always knew that if we got a goal we had a good chance and I also knew that James Boyd, who was sick all week but felt a bit better tonight, told me that he could play a half for us if we could get the ball to him he could deliver.

“James’ was our trump card, but even in the second half for long periods Ardmore dominated, but they just didn’t score.”

The Rovers gaffer used the age old adage, that things in football always seems to even itself out.

“We have had games like that before this season, in fact I can remember two or three games against Tullyally which were similar where we dominated things and in we were lucky to get a draw at the end.

“Once you dominate things you have to turn possession into goals.”
