Junior football round-up

Local action from Carrick-based sides in the Ballymena and Provincial League.

CARNINY AMATEURS II 2

CASTLE STAR 1

Junior Division Two: Castle went into this game knowing a win would keep up with the pace at the top of the table but they got an early shock when Kevin Coogan put Carniny in front inside three minutes. That early goal separated the teams until Warren Brown scored the equaliser on 61 minutes. Coogan had the final say and scored the winner with three minutes to go.

MOYOLA PARK OLYMPIC 4

WOODLANDS 3

Junior Division Two: League leaders Woodlands got a bit of a shock on Saturday and despite scoring three goals through Thomas Ogilvie (two) and Steve Scallon, they were still edged out by Moyola who netted four. Referee: Mr. Bert Purdy.

Junior Division Two: A solitary strike from Ballynure’s Steve Caldwell was enough to claim all three points for the visitors in this East Antrim derby. Referee: Mr. Trevor Higgins.

1ST CARRICKFERGUS OB 1

CARRICKFERGUS YC 2

Junior Division Three: A share of the spoils may have been a fair result for both teams in this Carrick derby but it’s goals that win games and Carrick YC won by the odd goal in three. Referee: Mr. Brian Leitch

AFC CARRICK 8

WAKEHURST STROLLERS 2

Canada Trophy R2: AFC got off to a quick start with goals from Steve Beattie and Paul Baker but the Strollers hit back through Samuel Miller. Daniel Wright and Beattie added two more for AFC, before Ricky Shaw scored a second for Wakehurst before the break. The second half belonged to AFC with four more from Michael Deignan, Beattie, Charlie McQuillan and David Stewart. Referee: Mr. Lee Patterson.
