Junior Park 'Cave' in to defeat

BALLYMENA Junior Park entertained Cavehill last Saturday however the Braid men did not have the best of days with the visitors claiming an 11 shot victory, 66-77.

On rink 1 Jimmy Alexander, Joe McKernan, Liam Lyness and Davy Balmer were still very much in the game against Y Davis after 7 ends with only 1 shot separating the rinks.

The game changed over the next 5 ends when the visitors scored 11 unanswered shots to open up a 12 shot lead. The remainder of the game was much closer but the Braid rink could not undo the earlier damage and eventually went down by 22 shots to 12.

Scores were level at 6-6 after 10 ends on rink 2 where Clifford Duncan, Sammy Watson, Jimmy Shields and Billy Scullion were drawn against G Duncan. Scores were still level after 15 ends with the score board reading 12-12, however the visiting rink finished the stronger to wrap up a 21-14 victory.

Tommy Glass (Jnr), Jackie Barr, Dessie Shaw and Harold Smyth claimed Ballymena’s only point of the day on rink 3 when they defeated the Cavehill rink skipped by F Massey.

After 6 ends the Braid rink held a slender 1 shot lead but they took control of the game when they won 8 of the next 10 ends to take a 20-6 lead and this enabled the Ballymena men to win by 27 shots to 11

On rink 4 Tommy Glass, Ivan Craig, Alan McCombe and John Greer could only win 3 of the first 12 ends as the visiting rink skipped by W Gillespie opened up a 10 shot lead.

Four ends later the Braid men had reduced the arrears to 4 shots but scores of 2 and 6 over the next 2 ends saw the visitors take the game away from the Ballymena rink and go on to win by 23 shots to 13.

This week Ballymena Junior Park have no match and will finish their league campaign the following Saturday when they travel to Gallaher.
