Juniors in devastating form

LAST week Ballymena Juniors entertained Knock and they put the disappointment of their Irish Cup exit the previous week behind them with an emphatic 117-48 win to keep them on top of the NIPGL Junior League Division 1.

On rink 1 Allen Stewart, John McFall, J J Robinson and Andrew Armstrong shared 4 singles over the opening ends against S Curran, however the game changed over the next 5 ends when the home rink moved up a gear to score 12 unanswered shots to lead 14-2 after 9 ends.

The remaining 12 ends were shared with the final score reading 26-14 in favour of the Ballymena men.

Billy McCandless, Joe McKeown, Nigel McAleese and Roy Torrington played a containing game against the Knock rink skipped by J Gallaher on rink 2. The visitors scored on 10 of the regulation ends, but could only score a single shot on each occasion.

The Ballymena rink on the other hand however won 11 ends but with the help of one count of 5 shots and two counts of 4 shots they helped themselves to a comfortable victory by 27 shots to 10.

Alan McAuley, Michael Wilson, Danny McCullough and Jimmy Larkin made a good start against C Campbell on rink 3 and after 3 ends they held a 6 shot lead, however 3 ends later it was the visitors who held a one shot lead.

Consecutive scores of 6 and 5 on the 9th and 10th ends took the game away from the visitors and further heavy scoring over the remainder of the game saw the Ballymena men claim an emphatic 34-12 victory.
