Just what the ‘doc’ ordered: Doherty on target as Ports bounce back

Ryan Doherty grabbed on the only goal of the tie five minutes from the break in a game the visitors dominated from start to finish.

Portstewart were determined to get back to winning ways right from the kick off - Nigel Turner, Ricky Dunlop and Ryan Doherty tested the Killymoon keeper early on.

Doherty broke the deadlock with a fine strike from close range.

The second half was similar to the first with the visitors in total control - chances from Lee Forgrave, Ryan Doherty and Ian Todd came to nothing at the other end Ports keeper Madison hadn’t a save to make.

Portstewart boss Gary Taylor was delighted with the result.

He praised a number of players on the day: “Lee Forgrave and Ryan Doherty were brilliant for us in the first half. Nigel Turner also worked very hard and was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet.”

Portstewart entertain league leaders Armagh City this Saturday: “They were the best team in the league last season but they faded away near the end,” told Taylor.

“They are a good footballing team so we’re expecting a tough test. On the plus side we are playing well at the minute we just had a results that didn’t go our way - the win on Saturday against Killymoon gives us a little confidence.” The game has a 3pm kick off.

Meanwhile, Portstewart FC have announced the return of the winter quiz nights.

The first one will take poalce on Friday, November 22 at 7.30. Everyone is welcome to come along.
