But the Bannsiders boss says there is no need for panic as he continues with the hard work of adding to his squad.

Kearney’s phone has been red hot over the last few weeks as he strives to bring in the quality players he is looking for.

“There has been a couple of ohs and ahs in terms of players we just missed out on because of the likes of geography, that was the case for two strikers in particular,” Kearney revealed.

“But there’s a long way to go still, the window doesn’t close until the end of August so we still have a lot of avenues to go down.

“We are pursuing a lot of different targets at this moment in time. Our budget restraints have been well documented, but I still feel we can get value for money.

“We have to keep searching but we also have to be patient. I am well aware of what I need to bring in and and the onus is on to bring in two or three more players.

“There hasn’t been a lot of business done and that’s because there isn’t a lot of players out there.

“I won’t bring in players just for the sake of it. The key for me is to bring in quality like the likes of Neil.

“I’m happy to wait for the right player.

“I am learning as a manager and in the past you maybe jump in early and a month later a better player becomes available and you’re left wishing you had waited.

“I have got to do my best for Coleraine Football Club, the fans and the people of the town, and with the responsibility I have in terms of the budget it is vital I don’t just sign players just for the sake of it.

“We have to get value for money and we will get it this season.

“I’m constantly on the phone at the minute trying to get deals over the line.”

Kearney added his second signing of the window on Friday with the capture of Neil McCafferty.

The Derry man signed a two-year deal last week and Kearney said the Bannsiders have to snap up any quality north west based players which become available.

“The minute he became available and I knew Stevie was on his way we had to make Neil a prime target because we have to be snapping up the players from our own area,” said Kearney.

“He knows a few of the lads from the North West which helps as well.”
