Kee wasn’t happy with his side’s lack of intensity and conceded that the home side’s never say die attitude probably meant they deserved a point.

“We didn’t do enough and we switched off when we scored, it was poor defending by Decky McKeever but in his defence he was only on the pitch,” stated Kee.

“But it’s a disappointing point to drop to be honest because we have to be coming here and winning.

“We are drawing too many matches and although we went for it at the end we just didn’t have it and when (Darren) McCauley blasted one over the bar at the end just sums our performance up.”

The statistics would probably have shown that ’Stute had 90 per cent possession throughout the game, but for all their dominance they didn’t test United keeper William Hassan a lot and that frustrated Kee.

“At the end of the day if they drop deep it was very hard for us to break them down, penetration happens two ways, you penetrate with the ball and you penetrate with a pass, now we brought on two wide players.

“Stephen (Curry) didn’t get any change out of wee Matty Young at left-back and Tom Carlin didn’t make enough influence in the match.

“It’s very disappointing but at the end of the day we have to dust ourselves down. But results like this means it’s getting tougher and tougher each week and I’m disappointed to be honest because we haven’t done enough to win the match.

“At the end of the day you can only put the team out onto the pitch and hope they can get the win, but that didn’t happen at Coagh, which as I have said was disappointing.”

Kee to his credit praised the home side for their heroic defending.

“They defended for their lives and they know that every home game that they have got they have to try and take points out of it and that’s what they did,” he added.

“Did we do enough to win the match, in terms of possession and play we did, but in terms of chances we didn’t.

“When chances came we didn’t take them and that’s the nature of the game, if you don’t take chances if they are presented to you then it will probably end up biting you and that’s what happened.

“We had about half a dozen opportunities, Stephen O’Flynn had a few chances, (Darren) McCauley, (Michael) McCrudden and (Aaron) Walsh all had shots but unfortunately it just didn’t happen for us.”

The Institute gaffer also conceded that the home side’s work ethic meant they deserved something from the match.

“We just didn’t do enough to win the game, they won more headers, they won more interceptions, they had more blocks in their half and if the law of averages goes on like that then they are going to get a wee bit of luck and that’s what they got.

“But they probably earned their luck and apart from their goal and one other shot I can’t remember Doc (Michael Doherty) having to make too many saves, but in fairness to them they did play well and that is what has been happening to us this last while.”

Prior to their previous outing against Dergview the Waterside out-fit have had to work extremely hard to earn anything.

In fact since their 4-2 success over Donegal Celtic, ’Stute have had five league draws, two defeats and three wins in those 10 encounters, so Kee knows his side have had a tough run lately.

“Apart from the Dergview game we haven’t had any easy matches and Saturday was another tough one. But I’m not disputing the fact that we didn’t do enough in the last third of the pitch.

“We didn’t make enough shots when the chances fell to us and goals change matches, but goalscoring hasn’t been the problem because we have scored the most goals in the league, but we just didn’t have that X Factor in the last third of the pitch on Saturday.”
