Kee can’t fault the
efforts of his players

Institute boss Paul Kee reckons the sheer hard work of his players brought them a point on Saturday.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Kee tried to hit back with a tactical switch by bringing Dean Curry on for Ryan Varma who had been making his debut for the club.

“We thought the right thing to do before the game was to try and keep working the system,” Kee said.

“But I had been trying to fit a few square pegs into round holes, and in fairness the boys gave it their best.

“It’s unfair on Ryan as it was his first game. He has been playing in that wing-back role a few times for the seconds and that’s why we gave him the nod.

“ Matt Young, who has played in that position, has been injured and we didn’t want to take a chance on him, because he hasn’t had enough game time.

“That was the first time that we played with the four at the back this year and yeah it was a different performance in the second half.

“But I have to admit it wasn’t just the tactical switch, it was the effort from the players as well that made the difference.

“We didn’t have enough effort in the first half on Saturday, but that changed after the break.

“Look Dungannon had something to hold onto after they took the lead and at times they defended for their lives, but we didn’t have enough solutions.”

It was Stephen O’Flynn who scored the crucial equaliser after the break and although Kee was delighted with the goal, he is getting slightly worried that the Cork man seems to be the only man finding the net for Stute.

“We are very dependent on Stephen at the minute and that is going to be a concern for us,” he said.

“But we went into the season with good faith with some players and it hasn’t worked out with half a dozen of them.

“The mentality now is that people just walk away and that’s very disappointing.

“Just this week we lost Thomas McBride as he wants to play junior football, because he wasn’t playing in the team.”
