Kee, who’s side moved into top spot in the Championship One table, believes his side have improved this season.

“We’re capable of producing better performances, but the players did dig this one out and I’m delighted as Distillery have been our bogey side this season,” he stated.

“We drew with them at Ballyskeagh before they travelled up here to knock us out of the Irish Cup. We found it difficult in those two matches and the same situation applied in this game.

“At this stage of the season you have performances like that but in fairness to them they came, worked hard and made it difficult for us but we stayed patient and grinded out the win.”

In recent weeks striker Stephen O’Flynn has been the man scoring the all important goals but he missed Saturday’s encounter with a groin problem and the ’Stute gaffer was even more pleased that his side were able to win without the Cork man.

Kee was also happy with match winner Stephen Curry’s display.

“Stephen Curry did really well for us and we needed the effort he put in. He was lively and his introduction did the trick for us,” he added.

“He had a wee bit of a throat problem in recent weeks and he hasn’t been feeling 100 per cent, but he felt a bit better this week and I kind of knew he was going to have some type of impact, he had a goalscoring record at Newbuildings and he has continued that here.

“With our top scorer, Stephen, not involved, it makes this win all the more important.”
