Kee happy with late lateequaliser

Institute boss Paul Kee was happy that his players produced a never say die attitude, which in the end earned them a point, on Saturday.

The Drumahoe club twice were trailing to Bangor at the weekend but a Darren McFadden strike and a 92nd minute strike from Paddy McLaughlin earned ’Stute a point.

“It was pleasing to see that equaliser going in,” admitted Kee.

“The players made a bigger effort in the second half and limited Bangor to a few chances.

“We told the players that Saturday’s match was going to be scrappy because we had played three games in a week while Bangor had a week off and they were fresh, so a lot of boys were running on empty.

“We didn’t let our heads drop after Parkie’s (Stephen Parkhouse) penalty was saved, we showed good character and credit to the players because they never gave up and got their rewards with the equaliser.

“Our form since the Dergview game hasn’t been good - particularly in the league. But the fact we’ve been playing poorly and still picking up results is a good sign.”

Kee also concedes that their success in cup competitions especially has some what distracted his side.

“We’ve played a lot of games midweek and that’s a victim of our own success, but we have players who are playing with injuries and they aren’t fully fit, such as (Michael) McCrudden and Parkhouse, but we just need a little bit of steadying the ship and get a head of steam up.”

The Waterside out-fit’s manager acknowledged that there was some strong words said at half-time, which he admits his players responded too and their character shone through.

“We haven’t done the work we would like and that’s starting to affect our game. There was a few things said in the changing room at half-time and the players responded to it.

“That goal at the end will give them a big lift and it’s a credit to the players.

“It was a good point against a team that will be up there challenging at the end of the Championship.”
