Kee happy with victory

INSTITUTE manager Paul Kee was happy his side returned to winning ways on Saturday, when they defeated Harland & Wolff Welders.

However he was quick to point out that not for the first time this season the Waterside men were sluggish in the first half.

“We have to take the positives because we have been fairly slow in starting in recent weeks,” he insisted.

“We’ve been lethargic and complacent so it was a better start than we had last week (at Warrenpoint Town) and I’m glad we got that out of the system.

“We put in a good second half performance. They were quite strong, physically and I thought the boys deserved credit for dealing with their direct style of play.

“The goal at the start of the second half settled the nerves and gave everybody a massive boost of confidence.”

The Drumahoe man also felt after his side took the lead they had enough chances to cruise to victory and he’s happy with the teams overall form at the minute.

“I think we had the opportunities to score that second goal and even a third to kill the game off later on but I would take a 2-0 win, especially after the results of the last couple of weeks.

“I’m pleased we scored two goals, okay the first one was a bit fortuitous, but the second was top class from Michael McCrudden.

“The players are giving it their best, training hard and we’re in a better place than we were in this time last year.

“We’re sitting in the pack and that’s where we want to be at this stage so we’ll take every week as it comes.

“Hopefully we can get enough wins in the next few weeks to set us up for Christmas.”

Kee was also full of praise for goalscoring midfielder Michael McCrudden, who he feels this season is a better player.

“Michael (McCrudden) showed again that he possesses good qualities that will hurt teams and fair play to him he’s getting his goals now.

“He’s got a great attitude and his training has been fantastic and gets on with it. Any knock-backs he gets he doesn’t dwell on it and is recovering quicker and you can see the difference in his performances now.

“He’s a more rounded player than he was at the start of the season and he is also coming off winning Championship Player of the Month, so hopefully he can continue his good form.”
