Kee not getting carried away

INSTITUTE manager Paul Kee wanted his players to send out a message when they hosted Carrick Rangers and that’s exactly what he got on Saturday.

His players were super right from the off and completely bossed their encounter, which took place in near perfect conditions at the Riverside Stadium.

“It was a good performance and we went about our business well,” stated a happy Kee.

“We were in the driving seat after going three up in the first half and after that it was going to be very difficult for Carrick to get back into the game. The performance was excellent overall.”

The Drumahoe man is delighted by ’Stute’s form, which has saw them win six games in all competitions since their opening day draw at Lisburn Distillery.

Saturday’s victory also moved them up into third spot in the Championship One table, three points behind leaders Dundela.

“It’s all about ability now because the team has been formulated now for the past year. The players know their roles, and it’s about mentality, strength and physical capabilities.

“We have players running with the ball and penetrating well and our fitness is good so I can have no complaints. It was a really good team performance.”

Like any good manager Kee wants his players to remain focused and isn’t getting carried away with things so early in the season.

“It’s only three points, the manner in which we won was pleasing but we have to keep our feet on the ground,” he added.

“If we want to take the league seriously we have to be winning all of our home games, no matter who we are playing.

“We also have to make sure we beat our nearest opponents and Carrick are one of the teams fancied to be up there because they signed 15 players and they had a lot of investment into the team.

“So it’s a good benchmark for us that we won, and won comfortably,” concluded Kee.
