Kee praises players after securing win on the road

Institute manager Paul Kee like everyone who left Clandeboye Park on Saturday knew his side’s 1-0 win over Bangor, could be significant at the end of the season.

The victory moved ’Stute above the Seasiders into second place in the Championship One table and three points behind leaders Carrick Rangers, who have played a game more than the Waterside men.

“Yeah it was a big result for us, it was a good performance and I think in the main it was a whole heartened commited Championship game,” stated Kee.

“While we weren’t at our best offensively in the second half I felt we did well in the first half. We controlled the game and created chances, but the most important thing was that the players were very concentrated on making sure that we won the three points and that’s what we did.”

The Waterside man also conceded that he was really pleased that for probably the first time this season his side showed their grit and determination to secure the points.

Despite not playing well in the second half, the Drumahoe side’s back-line stood firm to secure maximum points.

“If you count their goal efforts in the second half I don’t think Michael (Doherty) had to make too many saves, so that’s credit to the team in general.

“We defended resolutely and while we wouldn’t have been at our best offensively particularly in the second half we put in a massive defensive shift, which was needed and there isn’t many times that I can say that we won ugly but that’s what we did on Saturday.

“We came to a team who were unbeaten and had a 100 per cent record at home, so to break that momentum is great credit to the players.”
