Kee thrilled by six of the best ’Stute performance

Institute manager Paul Kee was thrilled by his side’s impressive 6-1 win over Larne, on Saturday.

Kee admitted the Inver Park men caught ’Stute on a bad day for them, as his players were tremendous throughout and showed good character to bounce back after their early set-back.

“That’s our early season form,” stated Kee.

“We’ve had a lot of dialogue about how we were going to move forward.

“Teams have been putting big efforts in against us and doing very well. I told the boys they had to up the ante and against Larne there was a better effort, better focus and there was more confidence in our play and as a result we scored six goals.

“It was a good response from last week. We did everything last week but score but the goals came against Larne.”

The ’Stute gaffer also felt his teams all round play was super and some of their goals was spectacular, in fact he was especially pleased with their third goal.

“The difference was our final ball. Our final ball, particularly in the first half was excellent.

“The combinations were good, and when you get (Darren) McCauley and (Michael) McCrudden playing like that, it’s great and having (Stephen) Parkhouse and (Stephen) O’Flynn up front, with their presence, helped. It was a good performance on a difficult pitch.

“I think our third goal had something like 12 passes before Aaron Walsh’s fantastic cross for Mickey to head home.

“In fact that goal probably summed up how good we played on what as I have already said was a difficult pitch.”

Kee also conceded that he had no qalms with the penalty decision, but he was happy with how the early set-back didn’t effect his players and they just got on with things.

In fact after Robbie White’s opening goal Institute never really looked under threat for the remainder of the game and in truth could and probably should have won by a bigger margin.

“I was pleased with the response because we just got on with it,” he added.

“We scored four goals and the way we scored them was very pleasing because there was good quality and we could have scored more.

“We’ve scored the most goals in the league now which is good for the players and good for the club.”

The visitors came into the game in super fashion as they had won six out of their previous seven games and had defeated the Drumahoe side just before Christmas.

“Larne have had a good run recently and their efforts have been excellent. We knew we would have to break their resolve, and there was no change when they scored,” he said.

“We knew they wouldn’t lie down, we knew it would be tough and that was proved.

“There is a price to pay for the way we play at times because we do play an expansive game but it came off against Larne.

“We were better concentrated and we had more about ourselves as a team defensively which was really pleasing.”

The victory combined with Bangor’s tight 3-2 success over fellow title contenders Dundela, means ’Stute sit three points behind the Seasiders in second spot, a position which pleases Kee.

However Kee knows that his side need to keep going as the likes of Dundela, Carrick Rangers and Knockbreda are just a few points behind and have all played less games that ’Stute.

“It’s just about keeping in touch with ten games to be played. There are still 30 points to play for and 30 points is a lot.

The Championship is an uncompromising league and you can catch a team on a day when they give everything for the team, like Coagh last week.

“Bangor are the favourites because they are on a roll and they have a number of games at home in their remanining games.

“They have the momentum and they got a good result against Dundela but all we can worry about is what we do.”
