Kee unhappy after defeat

INSTITUTE manager Paul Kee was not a happy man following their defeat at Warrenpoint on Saturday as he knows his side had enough opportunities to get a point at the very least out of the match given the chances they created in the second half.

He admitted that it’s becoming something of a theme this season where ’Stute are starting matches poorly and this time they didn’t take their opportunities to haul themselves back into it.

“It was very similar to last week except we scored five then but we didn’t score five this week,” stated Kee.

“In fairness, that’s what happens when you’re missing one-on-ones in front of goal. But the damage was done in the first half and that’s the way it has been in the last three or four games unfortunately.

“We’ve started really slow and sluggish. We talked about it and about guarding against it and we prepared for it but it happened again. So there is something missing there.

A frustrated Kee admitted that ’Stute’s wastefulness in front of goal had cost them.

“I can’t remember Corey (Wilson) having to make any saves in the second half. No disrespect to Warrenpoint. Fair play to them; they won the match but the fact of the matter is that they didn’t have a lot to do to win the match. We’ve been masters of our own downfall.

“We conceded, in my opinion, two soft goals. The first one in particular was soft although you have to give the striker credit for the second one as he’s ran the line well and finished it really well. But we went 2-0 down and gave ourselves a mountain to climb and we’re having to do this every week.

“Last week we scored five as I said but this week we can only muster one. In fairness to Warrenpoint, they’ve got a bit of experience in there now and they’ve got a lot determination and they held on for the win so fair play to them.

“We just look at the next game, prepare ahead and try to win it. It would have been nice to come here and take something out of the game and consolidate second spot but we’re making things hard for ourselves. If you want to be contenders for the top two, you have to be challenging every week and we’re doing it 50 per cent at the minute and that’s not good enough.

“The players aren’t stupid; they recognise it. It’s a game of confidence and we’ll work through it and see what comes out of it in the next seven days and hopefully get the right result against Harland and Wolff.”
