Kee wants players ready

INSTITUTE’S Head of Development Paul Kee wants his players to try and finish the season on a positive note.

The Waterside men, who entertain Dergview this Saturday (KO 3pm), currently sit in fifth place but have the same amount of points as both third placed Bangor and fourth placed Ards and Kee hopes two victories in the final couple of games will mean they claim third spot.

The Drumahoe man also knows after their recent Coca/Cola Intermediate Cup expulsion, which came about after this weekend’s opponents rightfully protested, his players will be looking for some type of revenge.

“It will be an interesting game against Dergview because of obviously what has happened,” admitted Kee.

“At the end of the day they have seen a loop hole and exploited that, so fair play to them but it’s not a nice way to go into the final, but I’m sure they won’t be too bothered about it if they go on and win it.

“If my players don’t use the Intermediate Cup situation to motivate themselves then they’ll never do it and hopefully if we can get two more victories and end the season on a winning note to get us into third spot and catch the likes of Bangor and Ards then it will be a reasonable campaign.”

Kee also believes finishing third would be something for him and the entire squad to build on for the 2012/13 season and he feels the financial problems every club in the country is having, could help him.

“Ballinamallard United and Newry City deserve to be in the top two, because of the points tally they have and the goals they have scored, but I would like to think we were the third best team in the division and that gives the club a good platform to start for next season.

“In essence it hasn’t been a bad season, winning two cups and getting to the final of another cup competition, in fairness that has been taken away from us; we are about five or six wins short of where we should be and that is because the team or the squad aren’t as strong as what they should be.

“I think it will be next season if we can retain the players that we have, they all seem happy enough, they have taken the cuts well and the thing is the sides around us like Limavady United and Finn Harps, there isn’t a lot of money there, so I would like to think I’ll be able to retain most of the squad and hopefully build on it for next year in terms of adding a few players.

“We definitely need more goals in the team, hopefully (Sean) McCarron stays in the straight and narrow he can provide that.”

McCarron netted a brace in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Tobermore United, however Kee wasn’t happy with the overall display from the entire team.

“I was happy enough with the win, but it was a typical end of season fixture,” he added.

“We were flat and I wasn’t happy with the first half performance and then in the second half we were just happy to be winning 3-1 and I was actually very upset with that, as it wasn’t at the levels we would like.

“We actually kicked back into the game whenever they scored the second and in fairness Corey (Wilson), who has played with a bit of a shoulder problem, has made a good save.

“Sean (McCarron) scored two goals and he could have had another couple more in fairness, but that is what he’s all about, he’s a goal threat.

“There are games where he’ll not be active and then all of a sudden he comes alive. Like he has made the keeper make a great save to keep an effort out in the first half when he made something out of nothing. He had a couple of other chances and that is why we need someone like him.”
