Kincaid delighted with Whites’ cup win

“My pint tasted a lot sweeter on Saturday night,” Kincaid declared, following the win.

“The thing about penalties is there is nothing I can do about it, I just have to sit there and see what happens.”

With his side winning the shoot-out 4-2, ‘keeper Ryan McBride was the hero of the day, with two penalty saves.

“We have a good keeper in nets and a good goalkeeping coach, who both did their job well,” Kincaid commented.

“I’m really delighted for Ryan, he’s sometimes an unsung hero. He’s really stepped up to the mark and is getting better.

“Glen Johnson, the goalkeeping coach is very good at what he does. He had shown Ryan a video of the Comrades’ last shoot-out, so he was well prepared for the penalties. They had both done their job and it shows how much work they put in.”

Kincaid was especially pleased to see his men deliver a better performance at Dixon Park, following their 6-2 defeat at New Grosvenor last month.

“What it proved to me was that Ballyclare aren’t a six goal team better than us. It was one of those days and hopefully they won’t happen too often.

“The boys responded the way I asked them to respond. They fought for the game and I thought they deserved to win the match,” he added.

The Whites return to league action tomorrow (Saturday), with a trip to Ards ahead.

“It will be a very very tough game,” Kincaid stated. “Ards are one of the top teams in the league. They have the resources to bring in players and are playing for promotion.

“We know what we’re going into and we have got to be prepared. But we’re going in confident, if you go in with any inhibitions then you’re in trouble.

“We are quite capable of getting a result, especially with the supporters behind us; the supporters on Saturday were brilliant.”

The Whites face a busy time ahead, with two back to back encounters with Dundela, hot on the heels of their visit to Ards. First up will be the league visit by Dundela to New Grosvenor on February 28, followed by a trip to Dundela on March 7 in the Quarter Final of the Intermediate Cup.

“It’s just the way things are in this league,” Kincaid commented.

“The games are never easy, there are going to be hard games and you’re going to meet the same teams; it keeps it interesting for the fans. But if everybody gets behind each other and supports each other then we can win,” Kincaid concluded.
