Gary Warwick put Ards ahead after 29 minutes, at a time when the home side were the dominant force.

Ciaran Murray levelled the match right on the half-time whistle however, with a backpost header from Paul Maguire’s cross.

Larne went in search of a winner, but it was the home side who earned all three points when Warwick scored his second with 17 minutes remaining.

“I thought Ards were the better side to be honest and deserved their win,” midfielder Stuart King reflected.

“In the first half we didn’t turn up and after half-time we changed our formation and gave it a good go.

“They’ve a team which a lot of people will be expecting to get promoted, so it’s disappointing to lose but it shows what we need to do to get to that level. I think we can learn a lot from it.”

Larne: Connolly, Scott (McCabe), Smith (Todd), McClean, Reynolds, McMullan, Irvine, G Gillan, Maguire, Murray, King (E Gillan) Unused subs: Rooney, Thompson.
