LADIES FOOTBALL: DC prove too strong for Coleraine

COLERAINE Ladies are still trying to find form after they recorded a third defeat.

Alison Nicholl’s side were missing a number of regulars for their League tie with Donegal Celtic on Thursday evening.

The tough tackling Belfast side walked away 4-0 winners, but despite the scoreline Coleraine put on a good display.

Coleraine started the tie well and created a number of chances putting the visitors under pressure from the start. Despite their efforts it was Donegal Celtic who had the best chance, keeper Danielle Stewart stood strong and kept the score at 0-0 at the break.

Coleraine were soon made to pay for not converting their first half dominance as Donegal Celtic took the lead shortly after the re-start, before slotting another past Stewart.

Substitute Sara MacFarlane should have pulled a goal back soon after, but her effort was ruled off side.

Coleraine lost midfielder Michelle Friel to injury half way through the second half and she was replaced by Alison Kelly. Danielle Stewart was heroic in goal pulling off a string of fine saves, and Captain Shariee Nicholl put in another strong performance in central defence, but couldn’t stop D.C. adding two further goals.
