Larmour is released by Larne

THERE may not have been any on-field action over the weekend for the Inver Park faithful, there was a fair bit of news away from the competitive arena, with veteran striker Davy Larmour released, teenage winger Niall McConaghie offered the opportunity to go out on loan – and centre-half Jamie Marsh fortunate not to sustain a very serious injury in training!

Larne boss Paul Millar revealed that after discussions with the board there was confirmation they wanted to release Larmour, with two or three others about to follow him out through the Inver Park gate.

“I was able to tell Davy the bad news on Thursday night but, because of what the training ground injury to Marsh, I didn’t get a chance to talk to the others who are being released. But I will do later this week.

Indeed, Millar and everybody else in the vicinity were close to a state of panic on Thursday night when Marsh went to ground after a run-of-the-mill tackle from team-mate Marc Brown.

“I was actually having discussions with a couple of members of the board at the time and, although I saw a group gathering after the incident, I didn’t think too much about it – and the next thing was the arrival of an ambulance and he was whisked off to hospital,” revealed Millar.

“Initially, there were even fears of a bad injury but, thankfully, those concerns proved groundless and there are no fractures or anything like that.

“It was just down to the way he landed so awkwardly as he turned away,” he explained.

“Meantime, young Niall McConaghie wants to go out on loan because he hasn’t been able to get enough football and I think his chosen club will be Amateur League side Larne Tech Old Boys,” cited Millar, whose team will now have home advantage against Dollingstown in the WKD Core Intermediate Cup on Saturday.

“Yes, we will be playing them at Inver because of the rule which sees the venue switched if the home team has two postponements in a row.

“And, given the worrying financial situation facing the club, I would earnestly appeal to the locals to come out in numbers to give us their support for the match and help us through this sticky period,” pleaded the Larne manager. The match kicks off at 1.30pm.
