Larne ‘buzzing’ at prospect of Welly Rec derby

Paul Millar is convinced that his Larne team has put their indifferent start to the season behind them and, on the back of two wins in four days, the Inver Park manager says they can now only get better – starting in the appetising big local derby clash against Wellington Rec in the Steel and Sons Cup this Saturday.

After a superb league win over Dundela in the new League Cup on Tuesday night, the Larne men produced a ‘brilliant performance’ to win their first set of maximum points in a must-win league match on Saturday at home to Glebe Rangers.

“The players have shown exactly what they are capable of in the last two matches and I am becoming increasingly confident about what the season holds for us – and with lots of justification,” explained Millar.

“We went to Dundela and won 4-3 after extra-time and that was quite a result and, with a performance to match, we had a big boost to our confidence, showing character and ability.

“Saturday’s 4-2 win was a brilliant performance and our courage and character was even more in evidence after leading 2-0 and being pegged back level after there was a wonder strike and a defensive mix-up from which Glebe benefited.

“In some former times, the morale would have been seriously dented by losing a two-goal lead, but instead the guys just showed greater resolve than ever to get stuck in again and win the game 4-2. Indeed, we dominated the second half.”
