Last gasp draw leaves Glenavon struggling

Glenavon had been leading 2-1 but couldn't stop the home side bagging a late goal to ensure the Blues' survival is still far from assured.

In a quiet first half, Glenavon had the lion's share of possession but struggled to create many chances. The best came via Ballymena stopper Dwayne Nelson who almost punched Kyle Neill's corner into his own goal, his blushes only saved by a vital goal-line clearance.

James Costello opened the scoring shortly after the break when he rifled in from Alan Davidson's pass, the former Glenavon duo conspiring against their old side.

Ciaran Doherty then spurned a good chance to equalise as he could only head wide unmarked from Hamilton's cross.

Brian McCaul did manage to haul his side level with over 10 minutes to go as he raced onto substitute Niall Henderson's ball over the top and poked it past Nelson.

Andrew Mitchell then looked like he had all but secured survival with his his first Carling Premiership goal as he beat Nelson to the ball to head in from a corner-kick.

However, Glenavon let in yet another injury time equaliser as they once again failed to see out a victory leaving them with a job to do against Dungannon next week to avoid the play-off.
