Law confident ahead of cup quarter-final

The Blues host Law’s old side Glentoran in the quarter-final at Mourneview Park (kick-off 7.45pm). Despite getting beaten by Eddie Patterson’s men last week, Law thinks that his team can come out of this one victorious and put their name in the hat for the semi-final of the competition.

He said: “We’ve shown that we can play well below our levels and still push Glentoran close so if we refocus and get a performance, we’ll look for two positive results from the two games this week.

“Glentoran play a certain way. They’ve a system and they’re pretty rigid to that so we may have a look at the system of our team to try and counter that.

“We’ll approach it with no fear. Hopefully we’ll get our home crowd in and we know ourselves that our performance needs to be lifted from recent displays in front of them.”

Law is asking his players to believe in their own ability ahead of the match after taking the game to the Glens in the second half of that defeat last weekend.

He said: “It’s the mentality, belief and expecting rather than hoping to win that is the hard thing. We’ve a few ideas and we’ve a few things that we can do.

“We felt that we had the confidence back up for last Saturday’s game. We had an exceptionally good week in training and we had addressed a lot of the deficiencies from our last run of games.

“We felt that we had given a good account of ourselves in the second half at the Oval and then training had moved on from that but the transfer of what you do on the training pitch and in a game is exceptionally difficult.

“Fitness-wise and organisation-wise, the boys are in as a good a position as they’ve been in at this club for years.”

Law also admitted that his boss and former Glentoran striker Gary Hamilton has looked off colour in recent weeks but backed him to get back into good form.

“Gary had a disappointing game again against Cliftonville on Saturday, he knows that, but he’s Gary Hamilton,” he told the ‘MAIL.’

“He’s consistently been a top performer in the league for a period of time. He got himself into a couple of good positions in the second half that didn’t come off for him but we’ll always keep faith in him.”
