Leaders stay unb-Eaton at top of Three

EATON Park boast the only unbeaten record after three rounds of fixtures in Division Three.

The rugby club side leap-frogged All Saints by winning their top-of-the-table clash by five shots last week.

A close game was anticipated between two sides who have made good starts to the season and that was certainly the case as Eugene Walsh defeated George Reid to claim the first point for Saints.

The overall difference between the sides came on the other first half mat where John Carruthers saw off Jock McKay by 13 shots to five to put Eaton Park in control.

Bonar Hill added to Eaton’s lead after the break with a 12-10 win over Eugene McReynolds, meaning that Paddy Martin’s 11-8 Glenravel win over Gary Shaw wasn’t enough to overhaul the overall shots total.

Despite the loss of their unbeaten record, All Saints won’t be too disappointed with their evening’s work and if they can continue to pick up some points away from home and continue their good form on their own mats, they may not be too far away come the end of the season.

Glenravel suffered a setback when they gave up four points from their home fixture with their St Mary’s namesakes from Portglenone, who won by six shots.

The Bannsiders raced to an 11-shot lead at the interval on the back of wins from James McCann and Patsy Boyd respectively.

Sean McKeown kept Glenravel’s hopes alive after the break with a six-shot success over Charlie Graham but a second point slipped agonisingly from Glenravel’s grasp when Paul Webb scored a ‘1’ on the final end to shade a 10-9 win over Niall Sands.

The only other game in Division Three saw First Ballymena romp to a 49-24 win at struggling Round Tower.

All four church rinks had something to spare, with Jean Mullan’s three-shot win over Kevin McLarnon as close as the Antrim side came to getting anything out of the game.

On the other rinks, Lyle McQuitty, David McQuitty and Roland Woods all had routine victories over Gilmore Campbell, Michael Teer and John O’Neill respectively.

The Golf Seniors v Enkalon match was postponed.
