League target is set by boss

Gary Hamilton believes his team must win three of their last five pre-split games to make the top six.

The Blues currently sit in seventh, two points behind Ballymena with two games in hand.

Four of their last five games are against teams in the bottom six (Warrenpoint x2, Dungannon and Coleraine) with the final match at home to Ballymena.

Starting with the fixture tonight against Warrenpoint at Stangmore Park (kick-off 8pm), Hamilton wants his side to get another three victories.

He said: “We’ve got ourselves into a position to give us a fighting chance.

“If we want to get into the top six, we have to beat the teams around us. If we don’t win three of these games we won’t deserve to be there. The lads have done tremendously well against the big teams recently and now they have to do it against the bottom six teams.

“If they want to prove to people that they’re a top six team then they have to do it by defeating the teams around them.

“All credit goes to the boys for doing that. When you consider the financial terms that we’re working off, to get boys in playing for the wages they are is great.”

“They all want to play football and play every game. They’ve all had their fair share of football this season and they have the hunger and desire to win games.
