Leave transfer talk to others, it’s party time

COVETOUS eyes from east Belfast to north Antrim and London to Lancashire are rumoured to be trained on the talismanic Paul Heatley.

But the level-headed young forward’s feet were remaining firmly on the ground immediately after Friday evening’s momentous celebrations when Carrick Rangers were presented with the Championship One trophy at Taylor’s Avenue.

The 23-year-old wing sensation’s thoughts were with his team-mates and the fans who have chanted his named at stadia across the country this season.

Talking to the TIMES, Heatley said nothing so far had “come close” to the sweet taste of double success - secured by his injury time winner in the WKD Intermediate Cup final - served up by Rangers.

“It was fantastic. Everyone’s curious as to whether it has ever been done before, to win two trophies on the one night. For a lot of the fellas that’s their greatest achievement so far.

“The fans have been excellent throughout the season, you have seen the crowds gather in their numbers and by the end of the season we had huge crowds.”
