Legends to play in Ian Crown Memorial match

Ex-Ajax and Feyenoord midfielder Dean Gorré is just one of the top names playing in the charity fundraiser Match in memory of former Stute man Ian Crown when a Institute Select will take on an International Select, on Saturday, May 9 (KO 3pm).

All the proceeds will be donated to the Foyle Hospice, admission is £3, which also includes a free-half time draw raffle ticket.

Ian, whose son Graham plays for Stute, died suddenly in August 2013 and one of the main organisers of the game is Ian’s old team-mate at Gransha Eddie McGroarty.

“I’m delighted that former Dutch and Ajax man Dean Gorré has confirmed that he can come over,” stated McGroarty.

“I’m also hoping to maybe get another big name who is still playing at the highest level in England, but I don’t want to say anything just yet because it’s not concrete, but we’ll know closer to the time if we can get him.

“I have spoken to Felix Healy and Liam Coyle and a few other ex-internationals and they have all agreed to play, which is great.

“I’m going to take charge of the International Select and I think Paul Kee and Ian’s son Graham will be in charge of the Stute team, so it should be a good day.”

McGroarty also confirmed that there will be a draw at half-time after various people have sponsored prizes and he also confirmed that Terry Coyle’s Icon Bar, Dungiven Road has been a big help to him.

“We are having a big draw at half-time, because people have sponsored me different things and when you pay at the turnstile’s you will be handed a ticket for the draw and you might win some of the prizes,” he added.

“We will be holding a quiz in the Icon Bar on April 30th complements of Terry Coyle.

“The quiz will get underway at 8pm sharp and even after the match in May, we’ll again be back in the Icon for a light buffet, which has been sponsored by Terry.”
