Linfield recover to defeat Lurgan Blues

Glenavon took the lead in an even first half with Guy Bates grabbing his ninth goal of the season on 22 minutes. Andy McGrory provided the cross and the striker sent a looping header past Tuffey in the Linfield goal.

The Blues levelled soon after through Carvill to leave it 1-1 at the break.

Andy Waterworth fired home from the penalty spot early after the restart and it was 3-1 when Lowry struck on 53 minutes.

Glenavon, to their credit, did not wilt and created several chances with Bates twice out of luck and Martyn also going close. Linfield in the end deserved the win, but the home side can reflect on the periods when they more than matched the new league leaders.
