The local girls finished off a great season, having already won the Skem Cup in Liverpool, by defeating Crusaders at Valley Leisure Centre on Thursday 7th July.

In front of a good crowd of supporters, the first half was very scrappy with both teams struggling to cope with the pace of the ball on the 4G surface.

However, it was Crusaders who took the lead when Lisburn gave the ball way in midfield, and Crusaders broke down the right hand side, a good cross found an unmarked Crusaders striker who finished well from outside the box.

The second half saw Lisburn make a few changes which saw them come out much brighter and soon dominating the game.

After missing a few chances they finally got their reward with an equaliser scored by Kerry Beattie after great work down the right by Sophie McCaw.

Lisburn kept the pressure on the Crusaders defence and midway through the second half scored what turned out to be the winner with another well taken goal by Kerry Beattie, after again great play by Sophie McCaw, who was creating some great chances with her attacking runs.

Lisburn could have made the game more comfortable but didn’t take some late chances, but deservedly won the game 2-1.

Most of the girls have played at the club since they were 8 years old and their development as a team is reaping the rewards of success.

Coach Terry Patterson said: “This was yet another great achievement for our local girls football, with the club having already won the Skem Cup in Liverpool, and with some of the team still only 12/13 years of age.

“It shows the development and progress they have made playing together for the last five years.

“On behalf of the coaches, myself and Seamy along with the club committee, a very well done to all the girls and a big thank you to parents family and friends for all the support throughout the season.

“Lets look forward to next season and participating in the boys Lisburn Junior invitational 11 aside league.”
