Derby day saw Lisburn Youth come out on top with a solid 3-0 victory over old rivals Hillsborough Boys.

It was an eagerly anticipated encounter with Hillsborough Boys showing signs of improvement with some good performances and results in recent weeks against top of the table, high flying Lisburn Youth.

The first half was a good battle and Hillsborough defended well and were hard to break down.

Meanwhile, Lisburn Youth controlled the game and bossed the midfield but chances were not as free flowing as they have been in recent weeks.

The first good chance came to Adam (AJ) Donnelly, who was released down the left from a great through ball by Ritchie Patterson. Donnelly, however, fired his shot into the side netting.

The next scare for Hillsborough came after Faulkner showed good footwork to create an opening for himself before firing his shot from the edge of the box against the bar.

It remained goalless at the half time break.

That soon changed however, as barely a minute gone into the second half Lisburn’s front two started to combine and it was Faulkner who played a lovely reverse pass into the path of Ross Hunter who took the ball in his stride and fired back across goal from the angle to make it 1-0.

That soon became 2-0 as an almost carbon copy of the first goal produced the second.

Faulkner again, reverse pass to Hunter again, and Hunter from a more acute angle again turned and fired hard and low from the angle passed the Hillsborough goalkeeper.

The game was wrapped up 10 minutes from time as Faulkner got on the score sheet himself and deservedly so with a powerful low drive from the edge of the box into the far corner.

Lisburn remain top of the league and look forward to a semi final this Saturday against TW Braga.
