‘Nude’ Leighton Baines drawing features in Turner Prize art exhibit

A Turner Prize nominee’s artwork appears to have inspired young people to think of Everton and England’s star left back, Leighton Baines.

David Shrigley’s bizarre ‘peeing man’ is one of four Turner Prize artists’ works on display at Ebrington in the 2013 UK City of Culture, Derry-Londonderry. The out-of-proportion naked figure with large eyes, ‘pees’ into a bucket after every 15th blink.

It’s been a popular attraction for people of all ages, who are invited to take crayons, paper and an easel and draw the figure. Their work is then hung on the wall and becomes part of the display.

Young people in particular seem inspired to think of footballing metaphors for the figure’s deadly aim at the bucket. One drawing is signed ‘Leighton Baines’.

Baines, of course, is expected to play a major role in this weekend’s Merseryside derby, with fixtures against Liverpool usually being heated affairs.

Baines has also been linked with a New Year move to Manchester United.

One Liverpool visitor quipped: “It’s a pity the bucket he’s pi..ing into isn’t red.”

Which would fit both Liverpool and Manchester United, of course.
