SOUTH ANTRIM LEAGUE

Match Of The Day

First half wins it for Warren

Warren YM II 2 Woodvale YM 1

All the goals came in the first half when Warren YM II surprised Division 1 title contenders, Woodvale YM 2-1.

Glen Davidson gave Warren the lead with a shot from 30 yards which took a wicked deflection to beat the Woodvale keeper.

They were two up soon afterwards when Vinny Oliviers headed home at a corner kick.

Woodvale pulled one back through a scrambled goal at another corner kick, forced home by Curtis Nesbitt.

The second half was hard fought but neither side could find the back of the net again.

Warren manager, Stevie Hamilton, said: “We got a two goal lead and we sat back at 2-1 in the second half to defend the advantage against one of the top teams in the Division.

Glenn Irvine, the Woodvale manager thought they were the better team in the first half despite going 2-1 down.

“The second half was just a battle with both teams cancelling each other out,” he added.

Mid-Ulster Football League

Division Three

Moira Albion 0 Hillsborough Boys 0

Moira continued their recent good form but will have been disappointed to only come away with a point.

The weather certainly didn’t help the game as a spectacle as the bobbly pitch made playing passing football almost impossible.

In an even and keenly-fought contest chances came at a premium.

Moira managed to carve out a few and after a good free-flowing move Thomas Greenaway put the ball in the back of the net only to be ruled out for offside.

Hillsborough had chances of their own and Moira have goalkeeper Ryan Wallace to thank for keeping the scores level.

Moira will be hoping to build on their first clean sheet of the season away to Armagh Blues on Saturday.
