Action restarts with the Cup

After two weeks of games in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League called off it was back to action with first round Cup ties on Saturday.

Lisburn Distillery Youth’s six teams all remain in the competition, Lisburn Youth have all four teams still there and Hillsborough Boys have three remaining

PREMIER DIVISION

Warren close the gap

Warren YM closed the gap in games played on Ballymacash YM at the top of the South Antrim League Premier Division when they beat Orangefield OB III 2-0, while ‘Cash were involved in the Gordon Hanna Trophy.

Neil Donaghy and Jay Hamilton got the Warren goals.

Sandy Row signified their intentions as they try to catch up on matches played as they beat Lambeg Rangers 9-2.

There were doubles for Colin Halliday, Curtis Moorhead and Paul Hill when the Row took a 6-1 lead.

James Willis came off the bench to score but was then red carded. Colin McCusker and a cracking goal from Paul Donaldson completed the rout.

Two Premier games were off - Ballynafeigh YM v Braniel YM and Bloomfield III v Glaston. This was Glaston’s second postponed game inside a few games as their match with Belvoir FC at Donegal Celtic on Wednesday was cancelled.

DIVISION 1

Clonduff stretch their lead at the top

Clonduff YM maintained their 100 per cent record in Division 1 and stretched their lead at the top with a 4-1 win over First Lisburn.

Johnny Bowes got two of the goals and David Moore plus a Lee Finlay free kick made up the four.

Clonduff’s only challengers, South Antrim slipped up when held to a 3-3 draw by Ballymacash YM II after leading 3-1.

Aaron Thompson, Stevie McNeice and Andy Robinson scored for South and Ballymacash scorers were Myles Taylor, Reza Davies and Marco Donaghy.

FC Utd Lisburn beat Clarawood YM 3-1. Tommy Roy 2 and Adam Faloon scored for FC with Darren Spiers replying.

DIVISION 2

Ten goal thriller

Warren YM II beat FC Utd Lisburn 6-4 in a thrilling Division 2 game.

James Lyness 2, Lee Beattie 2, Aaron Totten and Jordan Matier scored for the winners and FC replied through a Nathan Kerr hat-trick and Gareth Oldroyd.

Lambeg Rangers II were 2-0 winners over Newtown Forest III.

Clonduff YM II v Ballymacash YM III and Carrowdore YM v Glenavy III were postponed.

Other contests

Moira move into second round

Moira Albion II moved into the second round of the Gordon Hanna Trophy with a 5-3 away win over Victoria Athletic.

Ballymacash YM eased into the second round with a 5-0 win over Cregagh Wanderers thanks to goals from James Thompson 3, Raymond Kidd and Alistair Browning.

In the Division 2 Cup, Braniel YM II beat Lisburn Athletic 3-1 with goals from Lewis Irwin, Aaron Neill and Jason Warwick.

South Antrim League fixtures

South Antrim League fixtures for tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 2.00pm.

Blues Bus

The 1st Lisburn Blues supporters club will be running a bus from their Sackville Street clubrooms tomorrow (Saturday) for Linfield’s clash against Linfield.

New City Whites

New City Whites Lisburn Distillery Supporters Club will be holding A Night at the Races on Saturday February 22 in McCrums Bar, Low Road, Lisburn.

Doors will open at 7.30pm with first race at approx 8.30pm. There will be snacks provided and raffle prizes. Admission to the event is free. All support welcome.

The New City Whites would like to wish Tommy Kincaid a full and speedy recovery. Their thoughts are with Tommy and his family circle.

Lisburn Youth Round-up

U15

After several weeks of no football, due to the weather, Lisburn Youth U15’s were back in action on Saturday with a tough 1st round cup tie away to Carrick Rangers.

Due to several injuries and illnesses, Lisburn only had 11 fit players for the game but these players were a real credit to themselves and the Lisburn Youth Football Club by securing a place in the next round with a 3-1 victory.

Midway through the 1st half Regan McCanny put Lisburn ahead with a superb volley into the roof of the net from 20 yards out.

15 minutes into the 2nd half and McCanny struck again to double Lisburn’s advantage.

Carrick’s strong and physical approach was handled well by Lisburn but they did pull a goal back when their centre-back headed in from a corner.

McCanny was involved again when a great team move finished with him supplying the through ball for Ben Curran to score and win the match 3-1. Well done lads.

U14

Following three weeks without a game, Lisburn Youth U14’′s were really looking forward to this cup tie against Hillsborough at Wallace Park.

The game was hampered by a boggy pitch and a swirling wind but both teams did their best to produce good football.

After the early exchanges, Lisburn took control of the game but couldn’t display their usual inventiveness in the final third.

Paul Hughes played a couple of through balls in behind the Hillsborough defence but neither Ross Hull nor Lorcan McIlroy could get on the end of them.

After half time, captain Thomas McComb was pushed into midfield from centre back and he began to make his presence felt alongside Rhys Kelly with Conall Smith playing further forward.

It was McComb who broke the deadlock with a free kick from distance which was deflected into the roof of the Hillsbrough net.

Caoelain Young was skipping over the mud on the right hand side and Caoimhin McConnell started to torture the right back on the other side of the pitch.

McConnell and McComb linked well from a corner, McComb then curled one into the top corner to clinch the game for the young lions of Lisburn.

Solid display from Lisburn after a number of weeks out and missing some big players.

Next week it’s back to league action against Carrick.

U13

After a couple of weekends off, the boys got back into the swing of things with a typically Northern Irish Saturday morning Lisburn League matchup.

Despite the strong winds both Lurgan and Lisburn Youth tried to play, letting the ball do as much of the work as possible.

After a few good chances from both sides and a gift of a corner from Christopher Turtle that wasn’t capitalised upon, it was a run from Lewis Parker that really opened up the game.

A through ball from Salvijus Bucys allowed Lewis Parker to drive through the remaining defenders, Lewis was met by the Lurgan goalkeeper and even though the keeper made the first effort, the ball fell back to Salvijus Bucys, who had followed the play and his tidy finish into an open goal gave Lisburn Youth the one-nil lead at half time.

In the second half it didn’t take long for Lurgan to find a response through a midfield runner of their own.

A very good Lurgan side and a hard earned point for both sides the fair outcome. The boys continued their decent form since the new year.

U11

After the debacle two weeks ago when these teams tried to play a fixture that due to unbearable conditions and no referee ended up being postponed, this fixture finally went ahead at Holm Park, Home to Armagh City F.C.

Again the weather was a massive factor in this match as Armagh took the advantage of having the wind behind them in the first half.

Whilst both team did try and keep the ball on the ground and play football to their credit, it was inevitable that the wind was going to have a say in this game.

Armagh took the lead from a long punt upfield which travelled 30 yards and with the behind it, gathered pace in the air.

Lisburn’s goalkeeper Adam Young, scrambled and dived across his goal however, there was too much pace on it for him to get his body behind it flew into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Lisburn dug deep and created some good moments though Sinnerton and Morgan and the impressive Taci who showed some great footwork through out and beat his man every time.

However, Lisburn were dealt a further blow when again the wind caught hold of an Armagh freekick which evaded Burns, leaving Mackenzie Connor to react quickly with his head to try and clear it, but could only deflect it into his own net.

Lisburn came out in the second half and showed great spirit to try and force their way back into the tie and constant pressure and bombardment of the Armagh goal was there to see, but unfortunately a fine individual goal from Tyler Craig, who turned his marker and cut inside and drilled it into the far bottom corner, was too little too late as the full time whistle blew shortly after.
