Lisburn Youth

Under 12’s

The Under 12’s went into Saturdays fixture with a depleted squad through illness and injury with only 12 players and no goalkeeper available.

This meant a bit of a reshuffle from the usual starting 11 however, it was not noticed in the performance.

Youth went 1-0 up after 10 seconds after good work down the right from Nathan Millar who delivered the cross in that was tapped home from Adam Donnelly.

This early goal set the tone for the game with Lisburn dominating from start to finish with attack after attack. David Faulkner up front was in clinical form again. His running off the ball and finishing were excellent and he would go on to bag himself four goals on the day.

Tyler Bain and Nathan Millar were also excellent on the day whilst Adam Donnelly on the wing turned his full back inside out as he also scored four on the day, one of which was a delightful chip from outside the box.

The other goals came from Oisin Barr 2, Bailey McKeown 2, Tyler Bain & Justin Devlin. Thanks to Justin Devlin and Nathan Miller who both volunteered for a half each in goals.

Credit must be given to Willowbank who did try to pass the ball the entire game, play football the proper way and never resorted to knocking long balls.

Under 13’s

This week the Under 13’s took on North End in their second league game of 2014.

An exciting start was necessary for a typically cold winter morning and Lisburn Youth started with the required quick fashion.

With the boys playing some lovely football, a corner provided the breakthrough as Lisburn Youth’s captain Christopher Turtle’s cross was converted by striker Ryan Jackson, who met the ball at the front post to give the boys a one nil lead.

Lisburn Youth really kept the tempo in the game after the first goal. A free kick from outside the box doubled Lisburn Youth’s lead with Christopher Turtle adding to his assist earlier in the game.

North End did well to get a goal back just before half time. After the break Lisburn Youth dealt with the long ball a lot better and with the team able to play their football, it was only a matter of time before Ryan Jackson got his second with a strike simply too high for the North End keeper to get near and Lisburn Youth’s third.

With a disciplined last 10 minutes Lisburn Youth kept their lead and ended up with all three points. The team’s third win in a row since Christmas suggesting a real turn in form. The momentum really seems to be back with the team and are once again showing what they are truly capable of.

Lisburn Youth lost their 100% league record when they fortunately drew 1-1 with a fired up Windmill side.

Windmill deservedly took the lead in the first half after a bright attack, against a Lisburn side who didn’t get started all day. Credit for this goes to Windmill.

It was thought Lisburn would click into gear when they equalised quickly with a neat piece of control and finish from Conall Smyth, but it wasn’t to be.

Ryan Dowling was kept busy and without him Windmill could have been ahead a number of times.

For all the Windmill dominance, Lisburn probably had the two best chances to win it late on when Ross Hull and Paul Hughes had great chances on the break but it wasn’t to be.

Fair play to Windmill, Lisburn were lucky to get this point that keeps them unbeaten and well within reach of the summit with games in hand on the challengers.

Lisburn started their game against Oxford Sunnyside in horrible conditions, but in a bright fashion, zipping passes and creating chances early.

The opening goal came from a well worked corner. McConnell and McComb combined well with McConnell’s centre being brilliantly finished by Hughes into the top corner past the keeper.

The second came from a crisp drive by McEnhill, seconds after McIlroy failed to hit the target from a penalty. McConnell won the penalty when he was hacked down after going past a couple of defenders. In the heavy rain, his feet were on fire all day.

There were no further goals with Lisburn failing to take the chances they were creating.

Credit also goes to Oxford Sunnyside who never gave up and had some good moments themselves on the break in the second half.

Under 15’s

After last week’s convincing 4-0 victory over Lisburn Rangers, Lisburn Youth U-15’s maintained their steady start to 2014 and kept the pressure on Oxford Sunnyside at the top of the league with a 5-3 win over local derby rivals, Hillsborough Boys.

A great strike from Ruairi Maskey put Lisburn 1-0 up but Hillsborough were able to get on level terms when the referee awarded a penalty which they duly converted.

Further strikes from Regan McCann and Jordan Pegg gave Lisburn a two goal advantage but again Hillsborough hit back to make it 3-2.

The introduction of Nathan McShane and Ben Curran added a bit more pace to the Lisburn attack and with his first touch, McShane made it 4-2.

To their credit Hillsborough never gave up and again reduced the deficit to 1 goal after a fine finish from their striker.

Lisburn had the final say, though, when Curran headed home from a James Thompson free kick. Well done lads.
