Wee Whites

The Distillery U-10s were looking to follow up on last week’s excellent display against Larne Youth at Ballysillan on Saturday, but it was a different story as the boys performance dipped below the levels that we have become accustomed to against a very hard working Springfield Star side.

A sloppy pass in midfield allowed the impressive Springfield forward a free run at the back peddling Whites defence and he made no mistake firing home to put the West Belfast boys in front and he was at it again minutes later scoring again against a lacklustre Whites team.

Bradley Ingram tried to push the boys forward with some strong running but it just wasn’t happening today for the Whites. The second period was slightly better and Bradley missed a great chance to pull a goal back before a Jake Donaghy snapshot went narrowly wide but it was Springfield who scored again after more hesitancy in the Whites rearguard. Some strong words of encouragement at the next break fired the boys into action and it wasn’t long before Jake pulled a goal back from close range after a great run and cross from Bradley, Ross White and Conall Cunningham were also now coming into the game and Conall nearly pulled another goal back when he hit the post with a left foot shot.

The Whites were now throwing the kitchen sink at their opponents and Calum Ashby was unlucky with a couple of long range efforts before Jake hit the bar with a stunning free-kick. A day to maybe forget for the boys but credit to Springfield for creating problems throughout.

Blues Bus

1st Lisburn Blues supporters club will be running a bus from their Sackville Street clubrooms tomorrow (Saturday), to Linfield’s clash at Dungannon Swifts. Clubrooms open at 12pm and the bus leaves at 1.45pm.

Lisburn Youth

U15

Lisburn Youth u-15s were back in league action on Saturday morning and got another 3 points on the board with a solid performance over a strong and physical Apex side.

Apex set their stall out early not to concede and this allowed Lisburn to have plenty of the ball.

Lisburn used this to their advantage, playing some lovely football and creating chance after chance.

It wasn’t until midway through the 1st half though when Lisburn got their breakthrough with a fine finish from Ben Curran.

Curran was a thorn in Apex side all game and got his second when a Connell Devine free kick came back of the bar and Curran volleyed into the net from all of 20 yards. Great finish!

There were some fine performances on the day especially Colm Carson for the way he marshaled the defence.

Lisburn Youth U14′s Orange and Black army marched on with a comprehensive win over Ballymena at the freezing cold Rec on Saturday in a 9.30am kick off.

The game was only seconds old when Caoelain Young hit the post and his resulting cross was headed home by Lorcan Mcilroy.

Caoimhin McConnell unleashed a 25 yard effort into the back of the net just minutes later before McIlroy dummied a cross from Young allowing Paul Hughes to finish with a neat header.

Kyle Patton and Rhys Kelly added to the tally with great drives from distance but in between there was a cracking free kick by McConnell who certainly enjoyed his free role.

He added another to complete a brilliant hat trick before the impressive Ross Hull, who had 4 assists, got a goal for himself with a sweet chip giving the keeper no chance.

Wilson, McComb and Bailie at the back had little to do but were their usual effective selves defending also joining the attack.

The start of the second half saw a number of changes for Lisburn but no change to the pattern of play as the young Lions pressed forward and McConnell got his 4th. He went close again from a free kick and McIlroy slotted home the rebound off the keeper before McConnell got a standing ovation when he got a well-earned rest not long after.

To Ballymena’s credit they did work the keeper with a free kick high into the top right corner but Ryan Dowling, returning from a broken collar bone, somehow saved it into the post to preserve the clean sheet.

Scoring was wrapped up when McIlroy got his hat trick with the final kick of the day with a strikers tap in.

Greenisland next week in the league.

U13

This week’s game saw Lisburn Youth take on Shankill Juniors in an early kick off.

The game had a quick start with Shankill getting a goal from a corner almost from kick off.

They added a second soon after however, but a contender for goal of the season got Lisburn back into it when Taylor Tynan scored with a great 30 yard strike.

It was 2-1 to league leaders Shankill at half time but a sensational second half performance changed everything.

Christopher Turtle took his chance with great composure sliding the ball into the goal for a deserved equaliser after great work on the wing.

Soon after Lewis Parker took the game into his own hands with a strong strike to the keepers near post giving Lisburn Youth the lead after a long period of Lisburn dominance. The busy James Webb sealed the game adding a brace of goals to win the game comfortably.

An outstanding performance from Lisburn Youth shows what the boys really are capable of on their day, out-performing league leaders Shankill. A spirited team effort and an excellent result.

The U13’s are Lisburn Youth “Team of the week”.
