Local teams could land six titles

Local teams in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League could land all six titles if everything goes according to plan.

All the matches in the League were called off on Saturday for the third time in the last four weeks after a perfect start to the season until early January.

It is a good time to look forward and let’s look at the under-12 section. Lisburn Youth lead by a point from Ballymena Youth with a match in hand with TTBS Juniors three points further back and two extra matches played. Lisburn are the favourites here and they won the Shield.

Hillsborough Boys, also Shield winners, lead in the 13s along with Lisburn Distillery Youth, with Loughgall Youth, Shankill Juniors and Portadown Youth in close attendance. ‘Boro are the form team though.

In the under-14s, Lisburn Youth are a point behind Windmill Youth with three fewer games played. Loughgall are level with Lisburn and Shankill a point behind, but Lisburn are hot favourites.

Oxford Sunnyside Boys lead the 15s by five points from Lisburn Youth and Distillery, though the latter have played a game more. The locals have it all to do here.

Any one of the top four under-16 teams could lift the trophy. Greenisland Boys, who have played two more games lead by a point from Distillery and Bloomfield Youth. Willowbank Youth, with two extra games played, are fourth, so it looks to be between the Whites and Bloomfield.

Distillery have won all 15 games in the under-17 section and appear to have the title already wrapped up.

Cup Shock

The one remaining Cup first round tie beat the weather on a 3G pitch and it was a real shock when Banbridge Town Juniors, in ninth position, beat under-15 leaders, Oxford Sunnyside Boys 2-1.
