Logue fires home winner

GREYSTEEL Reserves player/manager Brian Logue was their match winning hero during Friday night’s Supplementary Cup Final, against Roe Rovers Reserves.

The boss came off the bench to fire home their winning goal in extra-time, after Dan Maude gave Roe Rovers Reserves the lead, but that was cancelled out by fellow substitute Eugene O’Kane, before Logue grabbed the all important winner.

“It was a game of two halves because, we were poor in the first half and they deservedly took the lead but the entire second half we had them pitted in and then once we equalised and took the game into extra-time, there heads went down, we took advantage of that and kept going.

“Because of the effort everyone in the squad put in on Friday night I think we deserved it. Eugene O’Kane and Michael Boyle both came on and they turned the game on its head.

“Both Michael and Eugene had plenty of drive, energy and fire in their bellies and that drove all of us on.” The win ensure Greysteel Reserves collected their first piece of silverware in a number of years, much to Logue’s delight and he was also full of praise for Paddy Irvine’s first team, who overcame Tullyally Colts to book their place in the Matt Morrison Junior Cup semi-final.

“The first team are also now in the semi-final’s of the Junior Cup and that’s great,” added Logue.

“Although we aren’t going to so well in the league this year both the first team and Reserves set our minds on trying to win a few cups, so hopefully the first team can now go on and win the Junior Cup.

“Someone said after our final, it was nine years since the Reserves had won a trophy and that was nice to have ended that run, it was a great feeling.”
