Lowry hopes for double success

EX-INSTITUTE man Philip Lowry admits winning the Carling Premiership with Linfield and seeing his old club avoid relegation would be the ideal season for him.

However he knows if both of those things have to happen, then his new club probably need to get maximum points against the Waterside men when they face them this Friday night (KO 8pm), at Drumahoe.

"At the end of the day we need the points just as Institute do so we know it's going to be a difficult game for us," said the Limavady man.

"Hopefully we can get the win and then Institute turn things around and stay up, because I still have a lot of time for the club and in fact I still talk to John Gregg regularly, so hopefully they can turn things around, but only after Friday night.

"They have had a tough season with injuries and having to lose a number of players because of other things.

"Another thing which probably hasn't helped them, was last season the club had a remarkable year and maybe too many people thought they could do that again this year, but they have to be realistic, the same squad let alone the same side aren't there.

"Having said all that they have enough good players who can make sure they avoid relegation.

"Because they have good players and I know John Gregg will make sure they are going to be up for the match, then we'll have to be at our best if we want to get a positive result.

"The games against 'Stute are always difficult and Friday night will be no different."

As for the 20-year-old he's loving life at Windsor Park at the minute after some what of a shaky start.

In fact the talented student has scored nine times this season, the winner against Ballymena United at the weekend and that game saw Lowry make his 40th appearance of the season.

"It's going well at the minute and I have been playing in a number of positions, but I'm enjoying it," he added.

"I have found myself playing on the wide a lot this season but I don't mind where I'm playing, I'll play anywhere the manager wants me to play.

"That is my ninth goal this season. I usually just make my runs into the box and see what happens.

"At the start of the season it wasn't happening for me and the goals weren't coming, but recently I have been getting in the right spots and the goals have started coming, so long may it continue.

"I signed a three-year deal in the summer, but I would love another one after that.

"I am happy here and everything is going well. To stay at Linfield you need to perform and get the silverware. If you don't then you are deemed not good enough.

"So hopefully I can stay here for a long time," concluded the ex-Limavady United midfielder.

Prior to Tuesday night's clash at Portadown, the Waterside men had only Ryan Semple as an injury doubt for the Blues game, however Kevin Ramsey is now a major doubt after picking up an ankle injury at Shamrock Park.
