Lurgan teenager signs for Portadown

Lurgan-born Josh Barton has tonight (Tuesday) agreed terms on a short-term contract with Portadown.

Barton was released by Aston Villa in June and the wideman has spent the past few weeks training with the Ports.

Ronnie McFall considers the 19-year-old a player capable of adding an extra dimension to his senior panel.

“Josh has been training with us for a while after leaving Aston Villa,” said the Ports boss. “We are delighted to have him on board on a short-term deal and certainly consider Josh a player for our firsts.

“He can play wide left or right and is very quick.”

Barton featured in last season’s NextGen Series final triumph by Aston Villa - a tournament considered the European Cup at youth level - and has previously lined out for County Armagh in the Milk Cup, plus Northern Ireland at schoolboy level in America.
