Manager movesto boost squad

Following the shattering Europa League exit last week, the players are on a two-week break before embarking on the domestic pre-season build-up.

With the news confirmed last week that Daniel Kearns would not be returning to Mourneview Park it gives the manager a bit more cash to play with.

Kearns, who missed the tail end of last season through injury, has joined Sligo Rovers.

“With Daniel not coming back it frees up a bit of money and we will see what we can do to add a few players,” said Hamilton.

“We have been looking all summer but so far nothing has been secured, but we have a few players on our radar.”

Hamilton admitted he has cast the net wide in a bid to strengthen the team.

“We have been looking here, down south and across the water. There are positions we are looking to add to, but we will just have to be patient and see what unfolds.

“It will not be a case of just bringing someone in to make up the numbers. If there is no-one around that we feel can enhance the squad then we will go with what we have.

“However, I’m confident that we will be able to find the right player before the season begins.

“We are following up a few potential leads and hopefully we can work something out soon.

“The boys have a few weeks off now to recover and then we will step it up again. Because of Europe it was impossible to plan any friendly games so we can now start that process.”

The players resume training on Monday, July 18 and the first friendly will be against Bristol City Under21s at Mourneview Park on Thursday, July 21 at 7.30pm.

Another, against Ballyclare Comrades, is also on the cards, but a date has yet to be set.

The annual Charity Cup final against Crusaders will be played at Mourneview Park on Saturday, July 30.

Glenavon won the toss for choice of venue.
