Martyn return a major boost says Hamilton

Gary Hamilton had plenty of positives to take from Tuesday night's defeat at Dungannon in the Mid Ulster Cup.

The big plus for the manager was the return to action of Ciaran Martyn.

“It was great to see Ciaran back after being out for five months.” said Gary. “He put in a great shift. He was winning tackles, getting into the box and winning headers. He was a perfect example for the younger kids in the squad.

“He has been out for so long but his energy and desire was there in abundance. Hopefully he will continue to gain match fitness and be ready for a return to the first team.”

While Martyn’s return is good news, there was bad news for David Elebert who lasted just 12 minutes.

“It’s a blow because David’s game time was building up and we had hoped he would be okay so this is yet another set-back for him.”

While disappointed to lose, Hamilton had praise for his young players who stepped up to the mark.

“To be honest we were poor in the first half, but after a chat at half-time the players did respond in the second half,” added Hamilton.

“Bobby Burns, Caolan Marron, Matty Lynch and Alex McIlmail all did exceptionally well and I know if I need to call upon them for the first team they will be able to do a job.”
