Matt and goalkeeping is a real glove story

THE future of goalkeeping will be in safe hands if Matt McGraw has anything to do with it.

For the local man, who is also a long time custodian for the likes of Portstewart and Glebe Rangers, has just released his own range of goalkeeping gloves!

It has been a fairly high profile launch with his gloves debuting at Manchester United’s Carrington training complex and just last night (Monday) they had their first outing on Sky Sports.

“Basically being a goalkeeper from the age of five I have always been obsessed with gloves and all things goalkeeping,” Matt explained to Times Sport.

“So a little over four years ago I thought would and could it be possible to manufacturer my own brand of gloves?

“Two years ago the whole process started in earnest. I began planning, designing and researching what makes good gloves, what keepers look for in gloves, materials, fit, styles, grip and most important cost effective for my market.

“It took a long time to source a good factory and trustworthy people as I have been sending money only on relationships built up in email and on skype!

“After speaking and receiving different samples off different companies I have found the right supplier, the gloves are past the testing stages, which lasted for eight months at all levels from park pitches to English and Scottish Premiership training grounds.

“This was all made possible thanks to former team-mates.

“Just last week MG-GK gloves were in use at Manchester United’s training ground, Carrington, by Alan Fettis, who is a former Northern Ireland keeper and now reserve goalkeeper coach at Man United.

“And on Monday night they made their Sky Sports debut as Michael Doherty wore them in the televised game against Linfield. Production for my first bulk order isn’t far away and the website is soon to be finished so it’s going to be an exciting few weeks ahead!”
