‘MAYOR’ POWER TO YOU!

BALLYMENA United Youth Academy under 10’s clinched their first silverware of the season with a dramatic win over rivals Lisburn Youth at Wilgar Park on Saturday in the Mayor’s Cup.

There was nothing between these two top sides and in a dramatic penalty shoot out the Braid boys eventually prevailed sparking wild celebrations amongst the big travelling support.

The United babes face Lisburn again this Friday evening at Seaview in the national final and would encourage any parents and boys from the Academy to come up and support the team as they aim for the double.

A combined under12/13 team travel to Sunderland this Friday to face the Premier League sides Academy team at this age,some impressive play from both sides this season has led to the invitation and unique opportunity for all the boys to impress.

UNDER-10

BUYA 2, Lisburn Youth 2 (United win 5-4 on pens): Ballymena got out of the blocks quickest,breaking through the Lisburn defence on numerous occasions but were unable to put away the chances.

Ben Wylie and Matthew Lorimer both came close but were just unfortunate not to find the back of the net.

Into the second period with both teams battling,United’s midfield started to take control and the breakthrough came when Cameron Bailes came out on top in a scrap on the edge of the box and fired home.

This spurred the Braid boys on even more and put their rivals on the back foot, Ben Wylie soon capitalising after some excellent build up play,with a great strike putting the ball high into the net.

With five minutes to go United looked home and dry. Disaster then struck as Lisburn scored twice, equalising with the last kick of the match.

United didn’t led their heads drop however and some inspired words from the coaches kept the boys going as penalties loomed.

Both sides missed a spot kick each as it went to sudden death with keeper William Crockard the hero as he made the vital save to clinch the cup.

A superb performance from the boys,Trai Hume getting the accolade as Player of the Final.

United must do it all again this Friday night as the province’s two top sides at this age group meet once more in the George Best Cup Final at Seaview.
