McAlinden looking ahead to next season

Davy McAlinden has been speaking to a number of players, but so far there’s no definite sign of any new faces coming to Inver Park. But most of those who ended the season with Larne will be invited to return for the next campaign.

“There is nothing startling to announce at this juncture,” said the Larne manager.

Already committed for another campaign were Chris Keenan, Stuart Scott, Chris Rodgers, Jamie Mitchell and Paul Maguire.

On Thursday he confirmed he had also secured the services for season 2014-15 of nine players: Robbie Lee Crawford, Stuart King, Darren McNamee, Niall McAllister, Craig Todd, Scott Irvine, Robbie White, Caolan Gillen and Ciaran Heggarty.

“When we took over the squad was pretty much depleted and there had been only around eight or nine players turning up for training so, even allowing for us bringing in half-a-dozen players in January, with a couple departing, we didn’t have a big panel to choose from at any time.

“Really, it was very much a bit of a battle numbers-wise and we want to avoid being in that situation next season.

“We definitely need to have much more competition for places.

“In a nutshell, rather than go down the route of having a wholesale clear-out, we need to keep the bulk of the players and bring in some others of good quality.”
