McCaul opts for Linfield

BRIAN McCaul has disappointed Glenavon fans by signing a new two-year contract with Linfield.

The midfielder, currently on loan at Mourneview Park had made a flying start to his spell at the club and fans had dared to dream that boss Gary Hamilton would convince the 21 year-old starlet to make the move permanent come the summer.

However, those dreams were shattered last week with the news that McCaul had opted to return to Windsor Park in a bid to forge his way into Linfield’s starting 11.

Glenavon boss Hamilton says that McCaul has what it takes to be a star with the current Carling Premiership champions and says he didn’t expect to hold on to the midfielder beyond the end of the current season.

“We knew the situation when Brian came to the club,” he told the ‘MAIL.’

“He wasn’t loaned out because he wasn’t good enough, it was just so that he could play matches.

“I didn’t expect anything different to what has happened and I just wanted Brian to come in and do what he has done for Glenavon. The way it’s worked out is that he’s got a two-year contract at Linfield and that’s great for him.

“It’s shown him that he is good enough to play for a club like Linfield and he can certainly go back there, play and make a good career for himself.

“If we stay up this season, then Brian McCaul is a massive reason why.”
