McEleney doubtful for Rovers game

Midfielder Patrick McEleney is extremely doubtful for tonight’s home game against Shamrock Rovers (KO 7.45pm), with a knee problem he picked up at training this week.

Boss Roddy Collins confirmed that McEleney will have a fitness test ahead of this evening’s match.

And one man definitely out is striker Rory Patterson who misses out through suspension, however the City gaffer won’t be using his absence as can excuse.

“Patrick twisted his knee on Wednesday, so it has flared up and we don’t know if it’s going to come down in time for tonight,” he admitted.

“Using not having Rory as an excuse would make me a complete hypocrite, because I didn’t pick him for games for reasons between me and Rory and I got absolutely slaughtered for it. Look we don’t have Rory and we might not have Patrick, but we just have to get on with it.”

On the plus side Barry Molloy returned to training this week, while Barry McNamee also had no reaction to his recent problem, after playing 45 minutes at Sligo Rovers on Monday and is in tonight’s squad.

Incidentally this evening’s game will be live on both Radio Foyle and Drive 105.3FM.
