McFadden looking for opener

STRIKER Darren McFadden is hoping he will have a big season for Institute.

The teenager has had a number of injury problems over pre-season and he’s now hoping that is behind him and he can get a good number of games on a consistent basis under his belt.

“I was doing well during pre-season and then I injured my knee, which was disappointing,” he admitted.

“Then in my first game back I did my hamstring, but hopefully now that’s the end of the injuries and I can get back scoring and playing well for the team, so that we can start moving up the table a bit.”

The 19-year-old is now looking to break his duck in front of goal and he gets that chance tonight when ’Stute host Moyola Park in the North West Senior Cup semi-final tie (KO 7.45pm).

“I’m delighted to be back, but to be honest it was good to get the result (against Limavady United) and hopefully we can get on a winning run, after the Dergview and Newry City matches.

“I had a couple of chances on Saturday against Limavady United and we should have put the ball in the net, but hopefully the goals will come.”

The Waterside man was given his first start at the weekend and his link-up with Ricky Lee Dougherty and Michael McCrudden was a major plus point for the Drumahoe men.

“Ricky is lightning so anything that goes over the top he’s going to win and then Mickey also did a couple of good things.

“Mickey is brilliant, he’s some player to play with and if you get into the right areas he’ll feed you.”

McFadden is confident when he opens his goalscoring account for the season that the goals will hopefully start flowing for him.

“We have a cup game tonight and I think we are playing much the same team, so I’ll be trying to get a few goals this evening.

“I know if I get my first goal then hopefully there will be more to come and that will get my confidence up.”
